Final project : Social Media

The thesis statement of the essay is “The effects of social media depends upon how a person, people and the organizations use it.” In this essay the perks of social media is going to be discussed in detail. Everything has both of its positive and negative pictures, while discussing the perks we cannot ignore the negative side of social media that if this global platform is used in negative form what the consequences would be.

Social media can be taken as a blessing of the modern world. With social media the distances among people has seen to be vanished. With social media the world has become a global village and everyone has equal access to everything present on internet and online. Social media has made the social bonds even stronger. Any news of any country would take seconds to spread all over the world. It has become even easier for the researchers to access the information to their related topic that easily. Internet has totally changed the way we remember things. Talking about the academics thousands of videos are now available online in order to understand the complex structures of chemistry or to understand the anatomy of human body. Students now easily understand the graphic representations of economies different concepts or the structures of bridges. While using the internet it feels like the world is around you and you have access to every bit of it (Noe, 2011).

Human beings always used the social media and the technology in order to make new relations with people and to add diversity to their social circle. The space they share online, the bond, their activities can also be taken as sociomental because their connection with each other is interpersonal and is dependent on the virtual spaces rather than physical activity for its creation and maintenance (Houser, 2020).

Billions of people use social media in order to make new friends, new bonds, in order to understand others culture and the norms of their country and more specifically to calm their curiosities towards other parts of the world. With the help of this modern technology millions of people are earning online. The internet provides people with so much online earning opportunities that it become even easier for the people to do a home based job now.

Every things comes with a price and technology also has its pros and cons but we cannot just neglect the pros and on the basis of cons made a decision that technology and social media as a whole is bad for humans. Watching the movie “Snowden” was quite a new experience and I learnt a lot from it. People often complain about the fact that the Government is spying on them and that they do not have a private life anymore. I wanted to say that does privacy matters even if you are not secure? Does Government make a phone call to your home while you was watching porn and complaint your parents about it? Obviously NO! Because that’s not the job of Government and what their job is to protect you from terrorism and for that they keep a check and balance to every unusual activity happening online. And that has nothing to do with your privacy rather the sole duty of government is to protect you. Yes, I do agree that the movie showed us all that our whole life was being captured by the government but for what purpose? For our country’s protection.

Again at this point of conversation, I would repeat that the use of social media and technology depends for what purpose a person or an organization is using it. In one of the articles named the “The Next Big Focus in the Russia Investigation: Social Media” the author has stated that Facebook has acknowledged that it sold ads to some 500 fake Russia-linked accounts between 2015-2017 and what most alarming is that the ads addressed the socially divisive issues like gun control, immigration and race relations. It is also written in the statement that it may discover more (Lucas, 2017).

Same while reading the article: “The Cute Cat Theory of Digital Activism”, have given us the idea of what people have in their hands and how well they are using the technology. The author named Zuckerman stated in the article that “Web 1.0 was invented to allow physicists to share research papers. Web 2.0 was created to allow people to share pictures of cute cats.” If a tool passes “cute cat” purposes, and is widely used for low-value purposes, it can be and likely is used for online activism, too.” And I totally agree with the author here, if people use the internet for their pleasures then there is need to understand that what this technology is capable to do and what do you have in your hand and you are not utilizing it in a proper manner (Wikipedia, 2020).

And same is the case with the politicians now. They are using social media for their own personal benefits. Every single person of the modern world knows the value of social media and how vast this network is. The politicians now use social media to run their campaigns and to spread the propagandas. The article “Longtime NBC Reporters Quits” has opened up a new fact door for all of us when a reporter from the NBC quit his career and said that the mass media has now become puppet in the hands of the President and the Trump free days are over for all of us (Arkin, 2019). And on such basis he quits his career after reading this I felt it so much that I really thought is it really happening to that level now? Yes it indeed is.

At last, I would conclude this discussion on the point that with every passing day the world of technology is growing so fast that we cannot stop it. We are and will enjoy the perks of social media and technology and for these perks we have to pay in the form of these false propagandas and the politicians’ personal interests. People of this era are so powerful as compared to the past ones and they know how to differentiate in between a fake and a genuine news. There is need for people to understand and make the right decisions not only for their personal lives but for their future and for their coming generations as well.

Exploring the Real World

This is going to be our last blog of this semester and what we have learnt overall was quite informative and interesting. Same is our last topic of discussion i.e. “Reality, Authenticity & making Sense of it All”. We are going to talk about the reality, authenticity and the things that make sense.

The first article: “The Kids Are Not Alright” is about reality. What is happening in the real world should be our main concern. In the article, the author mentioned the lives of the children who got raised in the fosters and when they did not get the proper advice for their future many of the children from foster end up having a bad life ahead. And many of the foster children would become involved in the crimes and end up in the prison. The author said that young adults emerging from foster care or the criminal-justice system are in an especially difficult situation, often released without guidance or support. “This abandonment not only worsens the divergence in the individual fortunes of young people,” Kim writes, “but also contributes to the widening gaps in income, wealth, and opportunity that have increasingly become a concern for policymakers.

Kim lays out the problem in the first half of the book, and offers possible solutions in the second. She writes with a quiet anger. Her sentence-by-sentence dissection of a system that isn’t working for so many reveals a place where policy makers could, with a little ingenuity (and, of course, money), make a big difference in the country’s growing inequality.

The next article: “Addicted to Distraction” the author have discussed about many of the things that are accessible to us and that can make us distracted so easily. Not only the internet and the social media but now the games are also getting so seductive for the young children that they spent hours on the internet in order to get mastery on such games.

At this point, I want to ask from you all that what do you think about this situation?

Do you believe that we should have a balance in our lives in order to achieve our goals?

Is internet filled with such seductive material that can summon a person for hours?

The next article: “The Decade the Internet Lost Its Joy” the author said that As someone best described it to me recently, the internet has moved from a flat ecosystem — with a multitude of smaller, trusted communities — to a vertical one, with everyone being pushed together into the same few platforms (investor parlance termed it FAANG — Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google), all in the pursuit of data collection and ad revenue.

The book “Program or be Programmed” by Douglas Rushkoff is a book which is based on the ten commands for this digital age. In this the author has made the discussion about the fact that the debate over whether the Net is good or bad for us fills the airwaves and the blogosphere. But for all the heat of claim and counter-claim, the argument is essentially beside the point: it’s here; it’s everywhere. The real question is, do we direct technology, or do we let ourselves be directed by it and those who have mastered it? “Choose the former,” writes Rushkoff, “and you gain access to the control panel of civilization. Choose the latter, and it could be the last real choice you get to make.” In ten chapters, composed of ten “commands” accompanied by original illustrations from comic artist Leland Purvis, Rushkoff provides cyber enthusiasts and technophobes alike with the guidelines to navigate this new universe.

I am going to share this week’s news post article which is based on the concerns of democracy in the digital age

Facebook makes it Hard to Move On

This week brings forward the new concept of the modern world. The topic ““NetSpeak, Memes, Emoji’s & Participatory Culture”. The given material was quite interesting and also filled with the true facts.

Starting from the article “Breaking up isn’t hard as it used to be on (Facebook)”, the author put light on an important issue that how Facebook makes it difficult to breakup even if you did so. No one knows why a relation gets to an end and how hard it is to move on from that painful phase. Then a year later, one day you login your Facebook and the very first thing you get to see is the picture of yours with your ex-partner. How? Because it is one of the feature of the Facebook to show the memories year after on the exact same date. And how hard it will become for you to pass that.

The next article “If It Doesn’t Spread, its Dead”, the author has made discussion about the fact that in this modern world how memes have become so important and as part of the entertainment life. The author said that “Talking about memes and viral media places an emphasis on the replication of the original idea, which fails to consider the everyday reality of communication — that ideas get transformed, repurposed, or distorted as they pass from hand to hand, a process which has been accelerated as we move into network culture.”

In another article, “Emoji Don’t Mean What They Use to do” has given us the fact to understand that how we have changed our way of interaction with other people. There are thousands of known emoji in our cell phones and now we are so dependent upon the emoji to express our feelings. The author said: “The awkwardness of the interfaces used to access emoji amplify that change. Overwhelmed by choice, we’ve become more tempted to type in a word and have the device offer matches, as some emoji interfaces allow. That’s also how some text-entry systems for no alphabetic languages work.”

The episode of The Black Mirror: “White Christmas” Three interconnected tales of technology run amok during the Christmas season are told by two men at a remote outpost in a frozen wilderness. Joe Potter wakes up on the Christmas Day and finds his talkative co-worker Matt Trent preparing the Christmas dinner. Matt asks what happened to Beth’s daughter, and although Joe initially claims he does not know, he remembers a police officer telling him she found her grandfather dead in the kitchen and went outside into the heavy snow to get help, but froze to death under a tree in the garden. Joe breaks down, admitting he was responsible for the deaths of two innocent people. Matt seems relieved that he has succeeded in getting a “confession” out of Joe, who cannot remember coming to the outpost or what he and Matt do there. Joe suddenly sees the outpost’s interior turning into a replica of Gordon’s kitchen, and Matt disappears. “Joe” is actually a digital copy similar to Greta’s, as the real Joe refused to confess to his role in the deaths, so the police brought in Matt to draw a confession from his copy. The outpost was a five-year-long simulated environment within a Cookie that lasted only 70 minutes in real time.

Keeping in mind the above discussion, I feel like we are so much involved with the digital world right now that even our love lives are also part of it. We are so dependent upon the emoji and on the memes for our entertainment.

For this week’s news post I have selected this article in order to let you understand how vast the Facebook world is now even in the relationship aspect. https://about.fb.com/news/2020/10/facebook-dating-expands-to-europe/

Privacy Does Matter! Even If You Have got Nothing to Hide

The topic “Ethics, Privacy, Porn (Revenge) and Terrorism” covers a lot of the material under one discussion. The reading material provided was quite impressive and informative in order to understand this topic and make a discussion on it.

Let’s begin the discussion with the article: “Social Media Spreads terrorism and Propaganda” opened up a discussion about how Uzbek immigrant Sayfullo Saipov has been charged with the death of eight people after ploughing them into the truck in downtown in Manhattan. He was also stand accused of “providing material support and resources” to the terror group ISIS.

The author further added that: “The link between online ISIS propaganda — easily found on a variety of social media platforms — and the death of eight people is linear and clear. A guy found some crazy stuff on a site, like we all do – regardless often of whether we even want to or not.”

The second article i.e. “Should Reddit be Blamed for the Spreading of a Smear?” was another article which is based on the spreading of terrorism through the internet. In this article, the detail discussion was made on the topic that the impact on the Sunil Tripath’s family as a result of the false identification of their son in the Boston Marathon bombing. It was a large article that comes to the simple conclusion: Maybe. Because there was misidentification on Reddit and no evidences were shown that goes against him. But what happened to that person and to his family was questionable.

What are your opinions on this topic?

Coming towards the next article i.e. “Why Privacy Matters Even If You Have ‘Nothing to Hide’” is a debate that does the privacy really matters or it is only taken under consideration when a person has done something wrong and want to hide it from the world? The author has further added that: “The nothing-to-hide argument speaks to some problems but not to others. It represents a singular and narrow way of conceiving of privacy, and it wins by excluding consideration of the other problems often raised with government security measures.”

He further said that: “Commentators often attempt to refute the nothing-to-hide argument by pointing to things people want to hide. But the problem with the nothing-to-hide argument is the underlying assumption that privacy is about hiding bad things.”

And the last article: “Why Revenge Porn is Really F*cked Up” was covered the whole of the discussion topic here. The social activist and YouTube star made a charge against his ex-boyfriend when her boyfriend made a video of her and spread it on many of the porn websites. I felt so sorry about her and I think that every girl must be strong enough to stand up against the humiliations and assaults if they have to face. The author further added that “Chambers’ reported her ex to the Atlanta police for rape, but, unsurprisingly, they decided not to press charges. That’s when Chambers made the brave decision to seek out justice in the UK. Because her ex had posted the videos while in Britain, she could still bring charges against him as they related to the revenge pornography.”

I really did not understand the mentality of the men who think that by doing such a shameful act they would become so famous or able escape easily. They need to understand that this not only made them guilty of charge but also is a shame for their families. I do not consider such men as humans but the animals who do not think while responding.

I am going to share a news article on the same topic i.e. “Revenge porn new normal’ after cases surge in lockdown”. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-54149682

Let’s Take A Break From This Fake World

This week brings an interesting topic to make discussions on. When I gone through the reading and watching materials I found out really interesting topics to discuss with you all and also it gave me new thoughts about these social media accounts and this universe.

First of all let’s begin with the article: ““Essena O’Neil Quits Instagram”, she was taken as a teenage super star with half a million followers on Instagram, 60,000 friends on Snapchat and more than 200,000 subscribers on YouTube. She was taken as a diva, a star to whom many follow and many wanted to be like her. But then the world had seen that she quits her own dream land. She deleted every social platform and change the name of her Instagram account to “Social Media is Not Real”. Later she made her own website and with the name: Let’s Be Game Changer” and made the confessional videos there to make people realize that all that glitters are not always gold. She explained the reasons that why she quit the social media and how tired she became while promoting the life style which was not even real. In one of her video she stated that “Social media, especially how I used it, isn’t real. Its contrived images and edited clips ranked against each other. It’s a system based on social approval, likes, validation in views, and success in followers. It’s perfectly orchestrated, self-absorbed judgment.”

Coming towards the movie of the week i.e. “The Social Network”, a film based on the origin of Facebook that how Zuckerberg had made a revolutionary change while sitting in the Harvard. The movie was quite obvious by many of us that how a man who cared very little about money became a billionaire in such a young age but in the process lost his one true friend. The main idea of the movie that I perceived was the change that one thing brought into the lives of many people. The Facebook became so popular I felt like people were so in wait of such a platform where they can socially interact with each other and the distances between them no longer remain a reason of separation.

What do you guys think about this movie?

Do you also believe that “The Accidental Billionaire” is what best describes this movie?

The next article: “Why People Get Annoyed at Celebrities on Kickstarter (And Why They Probably shouldn’t)” brings forward a new face of the celebrities i.e. the famous people did not leave a chance to grab more and more from the general public either in the form of appreciation or for monetary purposes. The Kickstarter was being started in order to promote the little guys who have the ideas to make a change in the world but not the money to support their dreams. An actor/director Zach Braff launched this program and raised almost millions in just few days but then the contradictory from many of the people started to come. People started asking that either the funds are for the Braff’s new upcoming movie? In answer to such nonsense Braff stated that: “I’m not Oprah, OK? I think there’s people who have slight misconceptions about how much money I have,” Braff said in an interview with Wired. “I’ve been very successful in my career, I am going to put a ton of my own money into this endeavor, but I can’t go out and fund what will likely be a $5.5 million movie out of my wallet. If people think that, they’re very wrong.”

For this week’s news post I am sharing an article based on the fact that many of the famous celebrities of this era have taken break from social media at some point in their careers. https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/pictures/kim-kardashian-more-celebrities-who-took-social-media-breaks/

Social Media Platforms or Political Puppet Show Theaters?

This week brings forward a new hot topic of discussion for all of us. And I am so eager to discuss my thoughts on the topic: “Politics, Subversion of Democracy, News (Fake) and Digital Activism”. All of the material given on this topic is based on the news, reports and articles filled with the facts and news that how social media and the mass media is being used by the politicians and how they are taking advantage from these platforms.

Let’s get started with the article: “Can Facebook Fix Its Own Worst Bug?” in this article it has been discussed that how a small innovation like Facebook which has been started by Mark Zuckerberg and now has become a global political and cultural force that now not even Zuckerberg is able to stop what he has started years ago.

Nearly two billion people use Facebook about every month and 1.2 million on daily basis. The Company which Zuckerberg co-founded in his Harvard dorm room 13 years ago, has become the largest and most influential entity in the news business, commanding an audience greater than that of any American or European television news network, any newspaper or any magazine.

The author said that “It is also the most powerful mobilizing force in politics, and it is fast replacing television as the most consequential entertainment medium. Just five years after its initial public offering, Facebook is one of the 10 highest market capitalized public companies in the world.”

The next article “Longtime NBC Reporters Quits” has opened up a new fact door for all of us when a reporter from the NBC quit his career and said that the mass media has now become puppet in the hands of the President and the Trump free days are over for all of us. And on such basis he quits his career after reading this I felt it so much that I really thought is it really happening to that level now?

What do you think about this fact? Are the politicians are using the mass and social media for their own purposes?

Is it logically and ethically right to make mass and social media the puppets for politicians?

Coming towards the next article i.e. “The Next Big Focus in the Russia Investigation: Social Media” the author has stated that Facebook has acknowledged that it sold ads to some 500 fake Russia-linked accounts between 2015-2017 and what most alarming is that the ads addressed the socially divisive issues like gun control, immigration and race relations. It is also written in the statement that it may discover more.

On this issue the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg stated that “We are looking into foreign actors, including additional Russian groups and other former Soviet states, as well as organizations like the campaigns, to further our understanding of how they used our tools”.

What I figured out from all of the above discussion is that politicians are now using the mass and social media for their own sake and are now trying to get their agendas fulfil by the help of these global networks where it is easy to make false news and accounts and make the trends go viral in just seconds.

This week’s news article is based on the topic that we have discussed and I am sharing this article with you all to let you know more about what social media giants are doing in order to counter misinformation in this election.

Copyrights: Fair Use or Fake Use?

This week’s topic “Copyright, Privacy and Fair Use” was a serious one to share the opinions on. The material that is being provided was filled with the cases in which the Copyright situations and cases are being shown and in order to understand fully about the sensitivity of the data you use in daily life.

First of all, the documentary i.e. “Downloaded: Napster Documentary” was an interesting video to watch. The people of the 90s still who use to have their own computer and if they are lucky enough their own internet connection, they would certainly know about what Napster is. In this modern world where the streaming and downloading of the music is just a game of the clicks, it’s easy to forget what a monumental ground shift Napster represented. The common fact that everyone remembers is that when Napster launched the music industry collapsed, the service remain in the industry for two years, and in that time its influence on how people obtained, shared and enjoyed music was more profound. This documentary was just a case that how two people shared an idea and their service had broken the music industry down yet give people a new thing to look on the internet and it was quite an adventure back then to have the music on your internets.

Second I found the “Douglass Rushkoff on Present Shock” an interesting book in which the author has shared the though-provoking facts. Unlike other social theorists, Rushkoff explores how it has caused a focus on the immediate moment that can be both disorienting or energizing. In an era that seems intent on deleting the art of narrative, Rushkoff creates a compelling narrative of the way we live now. He said that some of us are finding it hard to adapt the present shock. Alvin Toffler’s 1970 book, Future Shock, theorized that things were changing so fast we would soon lose the ability to cope and on this Rushkoff argues that the future is now and we are contending with a fundamentally new challenge.

What do you say about this thought of Rushkoff? Do you agree with him why or why not?

The article “South Park wins Lawsuits over “What What in the Butt” was based on a conflict between a singer and Viacom on a a short video clip that was being used in one of the episode entitled “Canada on Strike” of South Park by Brownmark Films. Later the judge in light of the “Fair Use” of Copyright act said that “Anyone who views the South Park episode in question will realize that the show was trying to lampoon the recent craze in our society of watching video clips on the internet that are — to be kind — of rather low artistic sophistication and quality.”

The judge then applied for four factor test of “fair use” and determined that a clip that lasts less than a minute in a 25-minute episode was not terribly substantial and would not ruin the Brownmark’s market enjoyment of its video.

The “Fair Use Doctrine” shares a Copyright act which provides a framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching and research as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.

For this week’s news article, I am going to share a Fair Use Week news which was celebrated in February 2020.

Digital Activism: The Power of One Digital Click

This week turns the discussion towards a new topic of interest i.e. Digital Activism and Social Justice. The material provided was quite interesting and I really enjoyed while listening the Ted Talks. I am going to share with you all what I have found interesting and some key points to think on.

Starting from the Digital Activism and Ted Talks, I have found the Ted Talk, “Digital Activism: using technology to Empower Change” by Darrick Morrison quite interesting because Derick talks about the most empowered generation and the idea of leveraging traditionally inspirational events to create the infrastructure to change. He added that machine learning accelerates the discovery, crowd-funding allows people to pursue their passions easier than they were before and social media is giving us the opportunity to share our ideas openly.

The technology and most importantly the internet use have given us all the power to gather the information about anything just by clicking. After listening to him, I feel like the member of the most empowered generations of all. Like we the people of 21st century are having powers in the form of technology and we can bring the changes worldwide by these magical powers.

What do you say about it? Do you feel like you have powers to bring a change? As for example, a single petition you sign can bring a change worldwide?

The three of the articles all give the idea of what Digital Activism is and how this power of the internet is ruling the world now a days. The article: “The Cute Cat Theory of Digital Activism”, have given us the idea of what people have in their hands and how well they are using the technology. The author named Zuckerman stated in the article that “Web 1.0 was invented to allow physicists to share research papers. Web 2.0 was created to allow people to share pictures of cute cats.” If a tool passes “cute cat” purposes, and is widely used for low-value purposes, it can be and likely is used for online activism, too.” And I totally agree with the author here, if people use the internet for their pleasures then there is need to understand that what this technology is capable to do and what do you have in your hand and you are not utilizing it in a proper manner.

What are your opinions on it?

The second article: “The Digital Cultural Shift: From Scale to Power”, the author stated that digital strategies and platforms provide a voice to the innocents when mainstream media ignores the issue at all. We have seen many of the leaders who use the social media in order to run their campaigns, they use digital platforms to catalyze actions. The last article: “10 twitter Hashtag that changed the way we talk about social issues”, listen down the hashtags list which really bring the change to the world.

After reading all of this information, I felt like what we have in the form of technology is like a blessing, if and only if this blessing is being used for right and just purposes. This Digital Activism not only bring the social justice but is a source to bring forward the voice of the innocents who struggle hard in order to get justice and still gets nothing.

The article I am sharing for this week’s news post is about environmental activism goes digital in lockdown.

Will You Prefer A Private Life or A Secure Life?

This week’s bring the new topic in discussion and I am eager to share the details with you all. What I have found most interesting is the movie “Snowden” and rest of the reading and listening materials are sufficient to understand the drawbacks of the modern technology.

Starting from the movie “Snowden”, I have found the story quite interesting and this movie as a whole gives a different concept to the audience in order to understand that what we actually see or assume is not actually happening in the real world. The person Edward has been shown as a whistleblower. Why he choose to become a whistleblower? Because while working within the system he find some of the matters unethical that the government was applying on the general public and he thought that this should be stopped or at least the people should have known about it. He moved to Hong Kong and there is with the help of a journalist planned this whole thing. The most interesting part of the movie beings when Snowden is still with the programme, he is using the traditional dark arts of spy craft, cosying up to the banker and blackmailing him in order to help trace the Saudi money.

This movie has given us all a lesson if we understand it and can be taken as an eye opening fact that no matter what you are doing, how many privacy policies you apply or whatever you do. Whole of your life is being captured by the government. Some people might argue that the government is not doing the right thing but I think that if the government is doing this then it must be for our own privacy in real manner. I mean did you ever get a call from any of the agency when they find you cheating on your girlfriend and threat you to stop doing so? Of course not! Because that’s not what their business is. There major concern is with the security of their country and when the agencies find anything fishy about a person then they take actions. So, my question to you all is Will you prefer a private life or a secure life?

Coming towards the reading materials like “Hacking Forgeries”, “The Messy Media Ethics Behind the Sony Hack”, “5 Worst Data Hacks”. All of these articles are showing the data hacking that have been made in order to make some black money or to publically hit a reputable person. After reading these articles, I felt so sorry for the people who have faced such miserable situations. Still I think that every person either a general man or a politician or even a movie star, each and every person holds the right to have some private life and no one has to interfere in their personal affairs. The technology is not making the advancements so that we should use it to destroy the lives of people. The main reason is to make ease for the people.

For this week’s news article, I have found this article in favor of my discussion that how we can make a positive sue of technology and can prevent the hacking.

Social Media and The Modern Killing Bees

With every passing week we are getting a lot of stuff to think about, make our opinions on the scenarios and then talk about it openly. This week’s articles and the Black Mirror episode made me feel so uncomfortable about the fact that how insane humans can be. How people behind the screen find it easy to talk insensitive and take a person up to the edge of depression.

I will start the blog with the articles i.e. “How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet” and “How the Internet Created the Age of Rage”. After reading these two articles, I feel so ashamed for the people who are involve in such activities and they find it amusing to talk so cruel about people online. Both of the articles have shown many examples where people not only get trolled but are also given threats of death, rape and more. I mean how would a person feel when he/she get the threat about his/her 5-year-old that she will be raped? People who use to do something different from the norms of society would end up getting threats like that and nobody can risk their families at any cost. This is the dilemma of our society that if we do not like a thing or we do not find a thing happening as per our requirement we start spreading the bad news about it or start mocking about the person who is doing this at first place. Then these mocking and bad news would start turning into hate and ultimately to the threats.

Now coming towards the episode of the Black Mirror: Hated in the Nation. I am so eager to talk about the stuff that happened in this episode. This was one of the most horrific yet an amazing episode. We all have seen in the start that two of the celebrities i.e. a journalist Jo Power and an American Rapper Tusk are shown who have made some steps that were not acceptable by the society and how they have shown hatred on the social media and then both of them killed themselves in a creepy way. In the investigation similar device found common in both of the deaths which was an Autonomous Drone Insect (ADI), which were designed in order to replace the extinct bees and are supposed to do the same job as the original bees do. Both of these deaths are found part of the game which was started on the internet, a website promoting the “game” where the users of twitter are supposed to vote in order to kill a public hate figure. The network of bees was got hacked and used for these mysterious deaths. And to my surprise people did vote there and this game continues till end and the end was the horrific part where all of the voters were also died in the same way they voted for the people.

What lesson we all get from this? The bees were originally made to replace the extinct of bees in order to fulfil their job. Which if we see positively is the positive use of the technology. But who used this in a wrong way? Certainly the hackers! The psychics who got this weird idea of death voting. So, again I will repeat that it is not technology that we have to hate but the people and the use of technology would be hated. These are the people who misuse the technology and then the whole of the community has to suffer from the after effects.

For this week’s news article, I have found this article helpful in order to understand that how we can avoid the misuse of the internet.
