Final Paper

Social Media has been expanding throughout the years, developing and becoming more dynamic in today’s society. It started out with MySpace and has developed into mainly four genres of social media. First you have Facebook which is essentially the father of social media because of what it brought to the table and what it has done for social media as a whole. Next is Instagram, which was bought by Facebook, but has since become the foundation of social media, where even older adults have started to make accounts because it supports their need of wanting to share their lives like everyone else does on the app. Thirdly is Snapchat and what’s amazing about snapchat is that it gave individuals the option to talk to people and send pictures at the same time, which made it feel like the conversation was more personal in a way. Finally there’s TikTok, this social media giant has had the most impact in retrospect because of the small amount of time it’s been around and in use. Although all four of these social media outlets have done much to advance our society, TikTok has made the most strides and has changed people the most from the short amount of time it’s been around.

In defense of TikTok, the joyful, slightly cringe-inducing spiritual successor to Vine - The Verge

Many people might not know this, but the app was made by secretive chinese billionaire Zhang Yiming. Unfortunately not a lot is known about Yiming other than the fact that he’s one of the richest people in China with a net worth of 27.7 billion. He also made a company called ByteDance, which is a technology company operating in a range of content platforms and has made 16.2 billion from this company alone and its said the company as a whole is worth over 20 billion. “Zhang was born in 1983 in China’s Fujian province, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Zhang’s parents worked as civil servants, Bloomberg reported”(Rogers, page 2). He started off studying microelectronics before switching his major to software engineering and he credits digital travel booking startup called Kuxun to success in making ByteDance. “I was one of the first employees. And I was an ordinary engineer at the beginning, but in the second year, I was in charge of about 40 to 50 people responsible for back-end technology and other tasks related to products,” Zhang told ByteDance employees”(Rogers, page 3). Zhang managed to create an inventive new social media platform changing the way people socialize and behave.

Although TikTok has overcome many challenges, the case still remains on whether or not the chinese government has control over the media giant. TikTok has been caught more than once snooping on American phones and because of this TikTok has taken many hits from its customers, affecting the amount of people who are willing to use and have the app. For example the Indian government banned TikTok on national security grounds, this in turn hurt TikTok because India is the platform’s biggest market. “According to reports, sources at the company suggested the ban might cost TikTok as much as $6 billion.”(Doffman, page 2). Australia and the U.S have also been on the prow of banning TikTok because of their relations with China. Since TikTok has been hit with so many scandals with snooping on people’s phones it has started a chain of events that have become very bad for business.

In the U.S president Trump has been working on trying to ban TikTok threating the corporation and its existence. He stated that China continues to threaten national security, forgien policy and the economy. He continues by saying “This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information — potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage.”(The White House page, 1).  Trump’s main problem with the app is that it promotes disinformation creating false news about what’s going on around the world and in the U.S. Even the military has banned  its personnel from using TikTok saying that this is a national emergency. Trump has said that if the app is not sold it will be banned in the U.S. China’s state made headlines on the Global Times tabloids, with them saying “The Global Times tabloid, often seen as close to Beijing’s thinking, accused the U.S. of “hooligan logic” in its push for certain conditions in the TikTok deal and called it “unfair.” In an opinion piece, it said it was “hard for us to believe that Beijing will approve such an agreement.”(Kharpal, page 2). The deal between the U.S and Beijing have not eased and are still in the stages of finishing the deal.

Since the possible announcement of TikTok being banned in the U.S, TikTok has had many buyers come its way. Buyers such as Microsoft and Walmart have joined up together to buy TikTok, with Oracle stepping in soon after to  have a shot at buying the app. Unfortunately in mid september Microsoft announced that they would be backing off on trying to buy TikTok because the company would not sell. Oracle ended up becoming the cloud provider for TikTok and would handle U.S user data. “A new U.S.-based company called TikTok Global will be set up with Oracle holding a 12.5% stake and Walmart owning 7.5%.”(Kharpal, page 2). TikTok Global would consist of four American citizens and founder Zhang Yiming. Although TikTok didn’t sell it showed its persistence during the dealings and determination to not sell.

During TikToks rise to fame, it also managed to make its content creators famous too, making a whole new wave of celebrities. Some of the most popular creators have millions of followers who watch them lip sync, dance, and produce comedy skits as they grow into high profile influencers. These high profile influencers also help promote new music from incoming artists helping to launch there careers as well. Some of the biggest names to come out of Tiktok are Charlie D’amelio, Addison Rae, and Loran grey just to name a few. Since there careers have launched charlie and her family have been offered a deal to do a reality show, and Charlie has even been in tv commercials showing off her dancing skills. As for Addison, she has just announced to her followers that she will partake in a new movie coming out. Lastly Loran grey has expanded her talents over to singing to where shed like to focus more on getting this new career off the ground. TikTok has opened new doors of opportunity for the creators that make the app so wonderful in the first place and have changed the way you can become famous.

The Power to Block

What would you do if you were able to block someone completely out of your life? I don’t mean the normal way where you can just block people from your social media or text messages, but instead block someone from hearing or seeing you ever until you feel like unblocking them. Now I’m betting many of you are thinking that yes you would jump at the idea of blocking someone completely out of your life. Although you might jump at this idea many things can go wrong with this type of technology. For instance it stops you from ever finishing an argument because the other person can just block you instead of having to figure it out. This week in class we had to watch a Black Mirror episode called white Christmas and it had to do with this technology of being able to block someone from your life.

Black Mirror Season 5: Release date, trailers and everything we know so far

The story starts off with these two guys called Joe and Matt and they start off as co-workers and Matt had been working on the christmas dinner. They had been working with each other for five years at a remote outpost in the middle of nowhere in the snow. They then start talking about for the first time why there even there, with Matt going first talking about how he was helping the shy Harry to seduce the beautiful Jennifer in a party using the Z-Eye implanted in his eyes in an illegal procedure. Harry ends up succeeding going back to her place, but they end up dying from an overdose of some drink she made. Matt ends up deleting all the evidence, but his wife finds out and ends up blocking him, becoming invisible and inaudible to each other. Matt ends up telling Joe his real job for which he works for a company called cookie and this company was capable of making a digital copy of the user. To which Matts job comes in and what he did was force the copy to serve the real user through torture and manipulating time to break any resistance from the copy. Now the reason why Joe was there was because his girlfriend Beth had blocked him over an argument about her not wanting to keep there baby. She ends up leaving, taking the baby with her keeping Joe blocked for years erasing any existence of there life together. He would then travel every year to Beths fathers place during Christmas to see his kid, but one Christmas he finds out that she died and in his heartbreak he decided to finally see his daughter for the first time. When he finally sees her he sees that she is not actually his daughter, but instead one of his girlfriends co workers daughter. In all the agony he goes inside and with the Christmas present he had for his daughter, which was a snow globe. Joe ends up killing Beths dad with the snow globe out of anger leaving the child behind to fend for herself.

White Christmas: A Rhetorical Analysis of the Black Mirror season finale | by Ashlee Bowling | Medium

What I like about this episode is that it gave in sight to new technology that if they were created could be useful in the future. For instance after Joe killed Beth’s dad he was picked up 5 months later living on the street and they couldn’t get him to talk about what happened. So they tricked him into confessing about the murder with the technology they had. It made me realize that with technology like the chip getting people to confess after they’ve already had there sentence could be a big step in putting other criminals away too. Overall the episode brought fourth many interesting things about this new technology and the affects it could have on people who use it.

Privacy and Propaganda in The Social World

Privacy is an important thing it’s something we value very much and depend on to keep us sane. The real question is when do we consider are privacy to be breached, like when is our privacy being taken away? I guess it depends on the person really because everyone has levels I think to there privacy. A big place where are privacy is the most important is on social media. Social media outlets have had to be very diligent about there privacy terms to make sure people weren’t having there privacy violated. Actually something thats very prevalent is this years presidential election and conspiracy theories surrounding it. A big privacy issue during this election was the ballots and how the transcribing ballots had been damaged and were unable to be fed into the counting machines. Since that happened the ballots in that condition had to have there information copied, which violated peoples privacy. Not to mention the possibility of rigged votes with both candidates initiating false claims of each other. Privacy protects you from what you wish to tell people, but what about the propaganda that we see on an everyday basis and the affect it could have on your privacy.

Security for Privacy on Data Protection Day — ENISA

Propaganda has become a big problem in recent years creating false news and wrong information. On social media we see everyday fake news and it’s hard because it creates this dilema of what to believe and what not to believe and we see this on social media as well. One of the articles we had to read this week was called “Social Media Networks Are the Handmaiden to Dangerous Propaganda” and this goes over how easy it is for terrorism to flourish online, with the propaganda that comes with it. One of the things this article talks about is how the CSCC which protects against propaganda was unfortunately outgunned and ISIS managed to produce more on twitter than the CSCC did 1 to 99. ISIS was able to brand it’s self and spread there ideas to other people a making it easy to gain followers. So if you look at it social media contributed to terrorism and the rise of propaganda. Another article we had to read called “Should Reddit Be Blamed for the Spreading of a Smear? had to do with other propaganda scandals. The article was about the bombing of the Boston marathon and how one the original suspects was wrongfully accused. The mans name was Sunil Tripathi and his parents created a Facebook page called “Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi,” which had video messages of friends and family. The Facebook cite ended up back firing though because one of the suspects in Boston looked like Sunil, but even though it wasn’t the family started to get hate comments on the Facebook page. It just goes to show the affects that propaganda can bring.

50 powerful examples of visual propaganda and the meanings behind them

What I found the most interesting this week was the NewsRoom episode we had to watch. The episode was about the bombing at the the Boston marathon and takes you over the events that happened. I just think the show did a good job of showing the importance of that tragedy and just how they do the show in general. Overall privacy and propaganda have become a serious problem and need to be addressed more heavily.

Revolutionary changes brought on by Facebook

Social media, we have a need and want for it, it’s like this entity that has a control over us that we cant seem to push away. The average use of social media per day from one person is 144 minutes a day. Now thats a lot of time spent on your phones and for what to like a picture or to comment on a post about your best friend. This is really what we concern our daily lives about, seeing things happen on social media and then dropping everything to see whats happening. It’s almost like we are being controlled by these apps in sense because it makes us give up our morales or change who we are just to fit in this new world of social media. What concerns me more and what makes me wonder the most is what were these companies trying to accomplish from creating these social media sights, in other words what was there end game?

Beyond Critical Thinking

Now if we really look at it Facebook really revolutionized how we understand social media. For instance the whole idea of showing your relationship status didn’t come around until Facebook made it a thing. Or the idea of posting pictures and letting the world know what you’re doing all the time, it’s these ideas that have changed how we share our lives with people and what we want to share with them. This week in class we had to read a couple of articles and actually watch this movie that was about Facebooks upbringing and how it got to where it is today, it was called The Social Network. What I liked about the movie is that it really showed the end game or the bigger picture that I was talking about earlier with other social media apps. This showed me that Facebooks first primary goal and what they wanted people to get from it was more of like a dating site rather than the place it is now where you share and get to know people in a friendly way. This comes back to the relationship status that Mark Zuckerberg incorporated into facebook. If you look at all the information from how they started the social media giant, you see that the app they were making in there college dorm rooms was meant for college students. It was meant for these students to find out who was single and just people you wanted to get with. In other words a dating app and thats crazy to think about because I bet when you go one Facebook now a days thats not what you’re thinking about when on the app.

Top Facebook Apps and Companies - GBKSOFT

As for the articles the one that we read that stood out the most is “Essena O’Neill quits Instagram claiming social media ‘is not real life'”. Essena is from Australia and she had over 612,000 on instagram and her reason for getting rid of her social media was because she felt that she had to be perfect all the time for her followers. Having to set an example and be on your A game all the time is no small challenge for anybody so I understood why being a social media star changed her way of thinking and made her leave the social media platform all together. Also to think that at such a young age of 18 she was able to realize how toxic and hard it was to be perfect all the time. It just goes to show that even with all these different aspects of social media there will always be flaws to which people just don’t agree with or want.

The Problems Fake News Brings

The news brings us our information and informs us about whats going on in the world, but how much of that in formation is the truth? We all believe for the most part that when we are watching the news the information we are receiving is the truth, so we’d have no reason not to believe these news stations. Who’s to say they don’t withhold information from us or only give us half of the truth. Many people believe that most news stations are only fixated on there profits and ratings, giving up in formation the public should know about for instead less meaningful news stories. A man named William Arkin who just quit as a NBC/MSNBC reporter has noticed this problem through out the years and decided he would no longer be a reporter for those news stations. We had to read an article about him this week for class and Arkiin is a actually a very established journalist who worked on war and military reports. He was best known for three part Washington post series, which was about how sprawling, unaccountable, and omnipotent the national security state has become in the post-9/11 era. Arkin quitting shows the problems with our news stations today and the depressing this is that it doesn’t look like this is going to change anytime soon.

William Arkin, NBC News veteran, warns of 'Trump circus' in 2,228-word farewell - CNN

A show clip we had to watch this week called the “News Room” goes over this idea of the of how media withholds the truth from the public. This show is about this fictional news team that does not withhold facts and information, but instead pushes for more news stations to be like them in the sense of giving the people the information they deserve to hear. They also base there episodes on real events that were happening currently, definitely a show to watch. We were also required to watch this video about John Oliver who goes over how the newspaper is struggling and how the new challenges journalists face are affecting the reporting being done on stories. He goes over the requirements of what journalists have to do nowadays, like having to constantly write, edit, shoot videos, and tweet. That has resulted in mistakes being made when stories are sent out to the public. So yes News Stations do withhold information sometimes, but its not always the journalist fault, but instead the people who run the station.

Live News - 1 Radio News

My take from all of this is that I believe most journalist wanna do the right thing and give the people a story thats worth listening to and not lie or give unworthy new stories. We deserve to be told the truth by people we trust to give us information and to let us know whats going on in the world. If we can’t trust the news then who are we going to trust to tell us what we want to know? There will forever be an ongoing battle between whether or not news is reliable or falsely given.

The Protection Copy Write Provides

In times like these we gotta worry about what has already been said or done. Depending on whether or not its a music video or a catch phrase and even a scene from a movie. Copy-write is a serious matter and when I say times like these I say that because it is so easy to get in trouble about what you say. Without you even knowing it something you say or do could lead to plagiarizing something. I mean if you think about it, it’s fair because the person that came up with that phrase first deserves all the credit right? But one could also argue that if you made that phrase a bigger thing than it was to begin with then shouldn’t it be yours, I mean the only reason there catch phrase is big now or anything they had done is because you made it big. People go through this everyday of being accused of copy-write even if they haven’t actually done anything wrong.

How to Copywrite Brilliantly When You are Not a Copywriter

This week in class we had to read an article about South Park being sued for making a parody of “What What (In the Butt)”. Now for those that don’t know “What What (In the Butt)” was created by Sam Well and it’s just silly video of him saying what what in the butt. What South Park did was make a parody of this video and Sam Well and his team felt that South Park didn’t stay within the parameters of the copy write notice. South Park obviously denied that there was any breach in the copy write notice saying they did the parody well in parameters. It was taken to court then the judge also declared that South Park did not breach anything and determined that a clip that lasts less than a minute in a 25-minute episode wasn’t substantial enough to ruin Brownmark’s market enjoyment of its video. Even though South Park was following all the rules and not totally ripping off the “What What (In the Butt)” video, they were still taken to court. Granted the original was downloaded more than 41 times, it still goes to show how careful one must be and how easy it is to get sued for copy write violations.

20 years later, does America still need 'South Park'?

I went and did some more digging about some other people and organizations that have been hit by copy write laws. On May 7 of this year Jennifer Lopez and her production company were sued for copy write violations for $150,000 in damages. The person that sued was a photographer named Steve Sands who alleges that Lopez posted a photo taken by Sands on Instagram. Like think about that, this guy is really suing Jennifer Lopez for a photograph and not for a low amount of money either. Sands says that Lopez and her production company did not licensee the photograph or get permission from him to post it. This isn’t the first time she’s been sued for a photograph too, but was also sued by Splash News and Picture Agency for $150,000 in October 2019. This just goes to show how easy it is to sue someone for copy write violations and it makes you think about how carful you gotta be in this day and age.

Socials issues and the affect technology has on them

This week in class we went over many articles and videos of social issues that are happening right now as we speak. Going from racial justice to social issues and the involvement technology has had in it. Technology has always been there, it’s always been advancing and making our lives easier, but at what cost? If you really look at it, technology has made things more difficult than easy for people. Especially on social media with twitter, facebook, and instagram, you see this censorship and suppression of opinions because people just don’t agree with what you have to say. Even though social media was intended for us to spread ideas and give way to issues that needed to be talked about, it has yet been able to provide that platform. It’s not social medias fault, but instead our own faults for turning it into something it never should had been. For example hashtag’s were supposed to be used to show awareness of social issues and has now turned into sarcasm and trolling to see who will lose it on someone first. It’s like we are intentionally trying to egg people on just to get a reaction out of them, making issues that were small at first in to big ones. I think some people just find satisfaction in starting controversy and creating that hostile environment because they know no one is going to stop them.

Spotlight on Social Issues - National Liberty Museum

An article called “THE DIGITAL CULTURESHIFT: MOVING FROM SCALE TO POWER TO ACHIEVE RACIAL JUSTICE” was one of the articles we had to read this week. The article went over race, technology, and movements for Native voices, Black lives, Muslim rights, migrant power, and racial justice in the 21st century. Now these are all very important topics of social issues and although this article was written in 2016, the problems that were happening then are still happening now. Such as the protesting involving George Floyd and other African Americans who were wrongfully killed by police officers. Now not only was the this situation met on a social media level, but also started a new form of the civil rights movement. We would all see tweets and posts about it on facebook and see the protests being done in states around the country. Now I believe that social media did help get the word out about these wrongful deaths being done by police officers using too much force, but I also believe that because of social media it also turned everyone against each other. Forcing people to take sides on whether or not police are all bad or only certain ones are. Some may even say it divided us as a country, turning into a war of sorts over on social media.

How Restaurants Must Step Up and Change to Support BLM Protests - Eater

This sort of movement shouldn’t divide the American public but rather bring them together. Peoples strong views on social media have helped to divide the American public and create a divide within the country. Instead, the public should be coming together and understanding each-others views. This use of social media to voice strong opinions and start online fights has led to a strong divide within this country.

Free or not Free?

All week I’ve been asking myself this question of whether or not we are free. Now thats a hard question to ask because it’s very broad. In my day to day life I believe that I am free, i’m able to go where I please and relatively do what I want, but what about on the internet? My theory is that we are all slaves to the internet and technology and this isn’t by choice or anything, but rather forced on by our own government. This week in class we were told to watch a movie called Snowden and this movie really changed my view on our government. It didn’t click in my head until after watching the movie of how little to no freedom we have on this technology that we love so much. Then this scary fact hit me, we have no where to hide. The government is able to track all our movements and they know what we are gonna do before we even do it. It almost reminds me of this app parents can get on there phones to track there children called Life360. This app allows the parents to track there kids wherever they are, which I don’t agree with doing, but thats a topic for a different time. I believe that by the government being able to track are movements, look at our calls and emails, this has in turn stripped us of our freedom not physically, but mentally on a bigger scale than we realize.

Thinking Question Think - Free image on Pixabay

As I was saying about the movie Snowden it consists of this man named Edward Snowden who is a contractor. He leaves his job at the National Security Agency after finding out mountains of data is being assembled to track all forms of digital communication. Not only from foreign and terrorists groups, but from regular Americans too. So he decides to leak all this information to the public because of his belief that the public has a right to know that the U.S government track everything that U.S citizens do. He does all of this while knowing he’d never be able to go home, see his friends, family and his girlfriend again. It’s pretty inspiring to be honest, you have this guy who has everything to gain from getting this information, but instead of handing it over to other governments he gives it to the people and lets them decide what to do with that information.

Snowden movie review & film summary (2016) | Roger Ebert

One of the articles I read this week about the Sony hacks and the reason for Sony being hacked in the first place is very similar to why government data was leaked. It also goes over the media aspect of it and how the media processes what information to send out into the public. This happened to Snowden as well when deciding who to trust to leak this information. Even when he did find people to put this information out there, they had to worry about the government stopping them. Suppressing this kind of information does not represent freedom, but instead takes it away. A quote from the movie that I like and think ties this all together is “Whatever justification you are selling yourself on, this is not about terrorism. Terrorism is the excuse, this is about economic and social control and the only thing you’re really protecting is supremacy”. Snowden saw that what the government was doing was wrong and acted upon it how I think most of us would. He believed one of the many true conspiracy theories, everything you do you can be and could be used to track you.

The negative affects of peoples opinions

Life is complicated, you go through this process of fitting in and trying to please everyone. It really makes you think am I doing this because I want to or is it for someone else. We like to think we make a lot of our decisions based on our own viewpoints, but I believe that many of us don’t actually do this. Don’t worry I do this too, but it’s not so much our faults, but social media instead. On social media people have this free reign to really say what they want and if enough people agree with one person they can’t get in trouble for what they say. It’s so easy to not really care what you say to people online because what can they really do to you. The answer is nothing unfortunately, this makes navigating social media so much harder. Now this week we saw something similar to this idea in a Black Mirror episode called Hated in the Nation.

Black Mirror

This was a very interesting episode it really makes you think about what technology can become and the affect media can have on a society. This episode revolves around these gruesome murders by little robot honey bee’s, that were created by a private tech company because of the extinction of honey bee’s. The UK government at there request asked the company to create a security hole, which ended up letting anybody able to hack the bee’s and rerouted to attack and kill specific people. How they decide who to kill is by using #DeathTo and this gives the people the power to decide who should die with a lottery in a sense. This gives way to public executions by mostly well known famous people. Although the people didn’t know that by them tweeting this hashtag they’d be actually killing people, it just goes to show that people don’t understand the consequences of their actions. Even if they weren’t actually killing these people it still doesn’t make it right to wish death on someone.

Twitter - Apps on Google Play

Let’s say we look away for second at the technology aspect of this, but instead look at the media part. One of the articles we had to read this week called “How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet” goes over how trolls are destroying the very reason we came to love media in the fist place, which is to spread ideas and to share aspects of our lives to others. Instead these trolls have turned it into a hostile and not very pleasant platform, making it hard for people to enjoy those aspects of spreading ideas and sharing parts of your life with others. Some examples the author used were how back in 2011 people went on the facebook memorial page of recently deceased people and made jokes about them being dead. Another one about Jessica Valenti who said she was leaving social media because she received a rape threat against her daughter who is five. Just like in Black mirror this shows how peoples actions on social media go unpunished regardless of the act done against others.

This article is about how President Trump has selected Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the favorite candidate of conservatives, to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and will try to force Senate confirmation before Election Day in a move that would significantly change the makeup of the Supreme Court for years.

Can Technology Bring Closure?

As time goes by everyone seems to lose someone close to them and it’s hard. I feel that we all go through that process hoping to meet closure, but as we all know it takes time. Losing a loved one is never easy, it’s painful and it makes you wish you had the power to go back in time and change everything. Now don’t judge me, but what if you had a chance to bring back one of your loved ones, would you do it? Most people in the early stages would probably take that chance even if it was a small one. When you have a void in your life you want to fill it anyway you can and by doing whatever means necessary.

This week in class we watched this episode on Black Mirror that brings up this same idea of bringing a loved one back. It starts off with this couple, Martha and Ash who had just moved into a new cottage. Unfortunently Ash dies the next day returning the moving van, this sends Martha into a state of grief naturally. This makes her decide to get rid of everything that reminds her of ash and just redoing everything in her image till theres nothing left of his memory. Even then it’s not enough for her she still feels him and remembers every little memory of their lives together. Now her friend tells her about this unnamed system that can scan the internet for the digital impressions of Ash, giving Martha a chance to make closure. Instead of closure this system only ends up making it harder for to move on, making her go a step further by buying a replica of Ash in the flesh. Martha ends up hating this, because it didn’t end up replacing the real Ash, but instead made this version of him that she hated. Ultimately making her more confused on how to move on than in the beginning.

Black Mirror: "Be Right Back" Is a Masterful Exploration of Fear, Love, and Death | Den of Geek

There was this question in class the other day about how do we know what is real? Like seriously think about that question like how do we distinguish between what is real and whats not real. In the episode Martha wants this to be real she wants this new replacement of Ash to be like the old one, but it just isn’t and she knows that. What I couldn’t understand is why did she end up keeping him locked up in the attic. Why not get rid of it, was it because she couldn’t bear to lose him again or does it again come back to not being able to move on?We listened to a podcast in class this week that talked about this guy who tried this interactive app that he could just talk to. It wasn’t a real person talking to him, but instead a computer version of himself. He ended up enjoying it actually saying that it was almost comforting having something like that to talk to. I was pretty interested to say the least, imagine having something to talk to that thinks like you. My friends are great, but I feel that because the system knows you and how you think it would be able to help you more if you’re in a predicament. This system that this guy went through is essentially the same thing as the system in the Black mirror episode just not as developed yet. Although in this situation it was nice to talk a computer system, the question still arises about if this technology can actually help with closure?

This article I found talks about a series of new revelations about the federal government’s coronavirus response and how it could reinforce concerns about whether the Trump administration’s political motives were a higher priority than the health of Americans during this Coronavirus outbreak.
